I heard Jason tell this story at a concert in St. Louis, and it revolutionized how I comfort people and myself. I try to avoid platitudes and critical analysis until they say "Okay, I'm ready to delve into this pain." Holding space for someone isn't easy because I want to save them. I want them to feel good all of the time. Heck, I want to cheer myself up when I am grieving, but it works against me every time. Thank you for sharing this story, your hurt, and your friend's powerful actions, Jason. They have completely changed how I think about and interact with grief.

Getting divorced is very painful for everyone involved especially your children bc one parent tends to alienate them from the other (children need BOTH of their parents). I’d rather die than to feel this pain. I’ve begged God to take it away from me. My son won’t speak to me, and I am missing out on his senior year of HS and I’ve never been apart from him this long his whole life. My husband of almost 20 yrs (18 married) abandoned me for the other woman. We were unequally yoked and I prayed earnestly for my husband’s salvation (neither one of us were born again when we married) I hoped for his freedom relentlessly… and I thought if I submitted and happily served him, honored, obeyed him and stayed faithful to my vows above my feelings (he knows I would never divorce him) he would eventually come to Christ, stop drinking, stop treating me hatefully and we would be a restored family. I feel like I’ve failed my mission as a wife and mother. I was harsh with my son abt having sex before marriage and I allowed bitterness to take root in my heart bc of my husband seeing the other woman & treating me like I don’t exist and I took out my frustrations & anger on them both and didn’t show forth the perfect love of Christ. I begged God to cleanse it out of me… My family is torn apart and lust has prevailed in my husband’s heart and in my teenage son. I know they both have free will and I can’t stop them… but God help me… bc this pain is MORE than I can bear!!! Healing is far from me even though I seek it day and night. I pray constantly for Jesus to heal us all… I am not bitter anymore, I wld rather have my family back, even if we were broken, at least we were together. At least we had hope…😭 Nothing can prepare someone who hopes for restoration, but never receives it. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” My heart is sick… But they still say, “count it all joy sister when you face divers trials.” My joy fails me… Jesus I need you to carry me now. The only way to healing is surrender, and I know that… but I have nothing left to give, it’s been taken all away. 😢

I’ve been incredibly angry with God the past few months, long story short, I searched for what I was feeling rather than doing the usual expecting God to just miraculously put it in my recommended. I came across Jason’s story and he sung this song. I’m so amazed this song exists and that people actually do go through the same thing. No judgement to anyone experiencing this. Having little to no faith and still having the courage to know God is good even when it seems like He is not. I’m not asking for anyone’s advice here, just saying I’m sending love and prayers to whoever’s going through something similar,

Its a lone road i must take, Lord please help me, to be able to be more open about my faith. Hold on to another day, waking up is a blessing, never too late to serve the lord Jesus.
